Zenless Zone Zero
Zenless Zone Zero is HoYoverse's free-to-play 3D action RPG set in a near-future post-apocalyptic world where a mysterious disaster known as Hollows has destroyed modern civilization. Players take the role of Phaethon — a dual-identity Proxy operating out of a video rental shop called Random Play — guiding unique combatants called Agents through the labyrinthine Hollow dimensions while managing a network of clients from New Eridu's rival factions. Combat is fast-paced and team-based, with squads of up to three Agents chaining Basic Attacks, Special Attacks, dodges, and devastating Chain Attack combos against Ethereals, exploiting elemental attributes and character roles across six combat styles. Outside of combat, the game features a commission-driven progression loop, faction storylines across New Eridu's districts, roguelike endgame modes, and a gacha banner system for recruiting new S-Rank and A-Rank Agents using Polychrome and Signal Searches.

Gameplay and setting
Zenless Zone Zero is a 3D action RPG centered on fast, team-based hack-and-slash combat. Players build squads of up to three Agents and switch between them in real time, combining Basic Attacks, Special Attacks, Dodge Counters, and Parries to control engagements. Building an enemy's Stun gauge opens a window for Chain Attacks — a rapid sequence where each squad member unleashes a special follow-up hit. Each Agent belongs to one of six combat roles (Anomaly, Attack, Defense, Stun, Support, or Rupture) and carries one of several Attributes including Electric, Ether, Fire, Ice, Physical, and the newer Lumiflux. Bangboo — small robotic companions — provide passive bonuses and can participate in Chain Attacks. Equipment customization comes through W-Engines (weapons) and Drive Discs (stat-boosting disc sets with set bonuses).
The story follows Phaethon, a Proxy duo operating from Random Play, a video rental shop on Sixth Street in New Eridu — the last city standing after the Hollows disaster. Hollows are spontaneous anomalous dimensions that engulf territory and spawn hostile creatures called Ethereals. As a Proxy, players take commissions from New Eridu's rival factions — including Victoria Housekeeping, the Cunning Hares, Sons of Calydon, Belobog Industries, and the Criminal Investigation Special Response Team — guiding Agents through Hollows in exchange for resources. The city's districts each have distinct visual themes and storylines, and the narrative expands across each version's Phaethon's Story chapter.
Endgame content includes Shiyu Defense (a timed combat ladder), Deadly Assault (single-boss challenge mode), and the permanent roguelike mode Hollow Zero. A gacha banner system called Signal Search uses Polychrome and Signal Searches to recruit limited and standard S-Rank and A-Rank Agents. Pity systems and rate-up mechanics follow HoYoverse's standard structure, with a hard pity at 90 pulls and a guaranteed rate-up at the soft pity threshold.
