Latest update

Version “Luna VIII,” “Sunny Summer Fontinalia,” went live on July 1, 2026. HoYoverse’s update notes add new areas, characters, story content, and events, while the version announcement introduces Sandrone as a new 5-star playable character.

Gameplay overview

Genshin Impact is an open-world action RPG set across the seven nations of Teyvat. The core loop combines exploration, quests, bosses, material gathering, and character progression, but instant switching within four-character teams and reactions between seven elements define its combat system.

Story, setting, or main mode

The player controls the Traveler, who becomes separated from their sibling and journeys across Teyvat. Each major region has its own Archon, factions, local conflicts, and chapter of the wider story. The main experience combines Archon Quests, Story Quests, World Quests, exploration, domains, bosses, events, and account progression through Adventure Rank and character development.

Developer and publisher

Genshin Impact is operated globally under HoYoverse. Its ongoing release model uses recurring version updates for characters, story content, events, regions, and supported platforms.

Download and availability

The game is free to download on its supported platforms. PC players can install through HoYoverse or Epic Games Store, mobile players use Google Play or the App Store, and console players use their platform storefront. Optional purchases include Genesis Crystals and other account products. The main open-world story, exploration, and combat client do not require an upfront purchase.

System / Device Requirements

PC requirements come from the Epic Games Store, while mobile requirements come from HoYoverse’s device-performance notice and the App Store. The Windows minimum lists a 6th-generation Core i5 or AMD Ryzen equivalent, 8 GB RAM, and GeForce GTX 1050-class graphics; the recommended tier steps up to a 7th-generation Core i7 or Ryzen 5000-series processor, 16 GB RAM, and GeForce GTX 1060 6 GB-class graphics.
