Genshin Impact is HoYoverse’s free-to-play open-world action RPG set across Teyvat, where the Traveler searches for a missing sibling while becoming involved in each region’s Archon, factions, and conflicts. Combat uses teams of up to four characters, rapid switching, seven elemental types, Skills, Bursts, and elemental reactions. Version “Luna VIII,” “Sunny Summer Fontinalia,” went live after maintenance that began on July 1, 2026 at 06:00 UTC+8. The live update continues the game’s long-running version cycle with new story, events, characters, and limited-time content.

Current Luna VIII materials introduce Sandrone as a new playable character and expand the update with new event content, outfits, and additional areas tied to the current chapter.

Platforms and availability

Genshin Impact is currently available on Windows PC, Android, iOS/iPadOS, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. HoYoverse supports cross-platform play across the current ecosystem, while account-linking behavior depends on the platform account setup.

The game is free to download with optional in-game purchases. PC distribution includes HoYoverse’s own client and the Epic Games Store.

Gameplay overview

Combat is real time and revolves around teams of up to four characters. Players switch characters during battle, combine seven elemental types, trigger elemental reactions, manage Skills and Bursts, and build teams around roles such as damage, support, healing, shielding, and reaction setup.

Exploration is equally central. The Traveler climbs, glides, swims where supported, solves environmental puzzles, opens waypoints, completes quests, and collects materials across Teyvat’s expanding regions.

Story, setting, or main mode

The player controls the Traveler, who becomes separated from their sibling and journeys across Teyvat. Each major region has its own Archon, factions, local conflicts, and chapter of the wider story.

The main experience combines Archon Quests, Story Quests, World Quests, exploration, domains, bosses, events, and account progression through Adventure Rank and character development.

The gallery combines current Luna VIII media with broader official story imagery. It shows the game’s anime-inspired presentation, elemental combat, character-driven updates, and world-spanning Teyvat narrative.

Genshin Impact is developed under HoYoverse’s game-development organization and published globally by HoYoverse/COGNOSPHERE. The game’s ongoing model combines large version updates with continuous character, story, event, and platform support.

Download and availability

The game is free to download on its supported platforms. PC players can install through HoYoverse or Epic Games Store, mobile players use Google Play or the App Store, and console players use their platform storefront.

Optional purchases include Genesis Crystals and other account products. The main open-world story, exploration, and combat client do not require an upfront purchase.

The Epic Games Store publishes current Windows minimum and recommended configurations. Minimum hardware starts at a 6th-generation Core i5 or AMD Ryzen-series equivalent, 8 GB RAM, and GTX 1050-class graphics.

The recommended tier raises the target to a 7th-generation Core i7 or Ryzen 5000-series processor, 16 GB RAM, and GTX 1060 6 GB-class graphics. The current store listing shows 110 GB minimum storage and 150 GB recommended storage.
