How to Link Genshin Impact to Xbox for Cross-Save

Genshin Impact lets existing PC, mobile, and PlayStation progress continue on Xbox through a linked HoYoverse Account and Microsoft Account. If you already have progress, use a Microsoft Account that has never logged into a HoYoverse game and complete the account-linking pop-up on its first Xbox login.

Use a fresh Microsoft Account for an existing HoYoverse save
Genshin Impact has two different Xbox linking situations. If your progress already exists on PC, mobile, or another linked platform, use a Microsoft Account that has never previously logged into a HoYoverse game. That account is eligible to link to your existing HoYoverse Account during its first Genshin Impact login on Xbox.
Before starting, confirm the HoYoverse Account email and the server containing your main character. Xbox lets you choose between the supported Genshin Impact servers, so Microsoft Store region does not decide where your save appears.
Link your existing Genshin Impact save on the first Xbox login
- Verify your existing HoYoverse Account and server. Make sure you know which account and server contain the progression you want.
- Sign in on Xbox with a qualifying Microsoft Account. For this route, it must not have previously logged into a HoYoverse game.
- Launch Genshin Impact for the first time. Continue through the Terms of Service until the account-linking pop-up appears.
- Use that pop-up to link the existing HoYoverse Account. Enter the email credentials associated with your existing progress and complete the prompts.
- Select the server containing your character. Xbox does not lock the game server to the Microsoft Store region.
- Enter the game and verify the save. Check the UID, characters, inventory, and progression before making any further account changes.
Note: The existing-account linking pop-up appears only on the qualifying Microsoft Account's first entry after accepting the Terms of Service. Do not skip it if your goal is to connect an existing HoYoverse save.
If you started on Xbox first
If Xbox already contains the progress you want to keep, open Settings > Account > User Center > Link Account. Link the Microsoft Account's Genshin progress to an email address that has not already registered a HoYoverse Account. After that, use the resulting HoYoverse Account on the same server on PC, Android, or iOS.
Cross-save loads the progress from the linked HoYoverse Account and server
After linking, Xbox uses the Microsoft Account while PC and mobile use the linked HoYoverse Account or supported third-party login. The linked accounts share game progression, but you still need to enter the server where that progress exists.
If you also play on PlayStation, the PSN account and Microsoft Account must point to the same HoYoverse Account for the same progress to be available. PSN region determines its corresponding Genshin server, while Xbox lets you select a server directly.
Microsoft Account linking has strict eligibility and unlink limits
- A Microsoft Account with existing HoYoverse game progress cannot use the first-login route to attach another existing HoYoverse Account.
- One Microsoft Account can link to only one email, and an email registered to a HoYoverse Account can link to only one Microsoft Account.
- A Microsoft Account can currently be unlinked from its HoYoverse Account only once.
- Xbox login uses the Microsoft Account. The linked HoYoverse Account is used on supported non-Xbox platforms rather than as a direct Xbox login.
If your existing progress does not appear on Xbox
First check the selected server. If the server is correct, open the account information in Settings > Account > User Center and confirm that Xbox is linked to the intended HoYoverse Account. If you skipped the first-login linking pop-up and the Microsoft Account already entered the game, do not create additional links at random. HoYoverse states that this account state cannot use that pop-up to attach another existing HoYoverse Account, so use HoYoverse account support to review the link before changing anything.
FAQ
6 questionsUse a Microsoft Account that has never previously logged into a HoYoverse game. On its first Genshin Impact login on Xbox, use the account-linking pop-up to connect the HoYoverse Account that already owns your progress.
HoYoverse says the pop-up appears only the first time a qualifying Microsoft Account enters the game after the Terms of Service. If you skip it and continue into the game, that Microsoft Account registers HoYoverse game progress and can no longer be linked to another existing HoYoverse Account through that first-login route.
No. Xbox can access the Asia, Europe, America, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macau servers, and the Microsoft Store region does not determine the server. Select the server that contains the progress you want to continue.
Yes, if the PSN account and Microsoft Account are linked to the same HoYoverse Account and you enter the server containing that progress. Remember that PSN region determines its Genshin server, while Xbox lets you select a server.
On Xbox, open Settings > Account > User Center > Link Account and link the account to an email address that has not already registered a HoYoverse Account. You can then use that HoYoverse Account on the same server on PC, Android, or iOS.
HoYoverse says a Microsoft Account can currently be unlinked from its HoYoverse Account only once. Check the accounts and server carefully before linking or unlinking.
