PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS is PUBG Corporation's free-to-play battle royale shooter — up to 100 players land, loot and survive inside a shrinking Blue Zone. It has been out on Windows PC since December 21, 2017, with current service on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S and Update 42.2 now live.
Latest update
Update 42.2 is live on PC as of July 15, 2026 and on console as of July 23. KRAFTON's patch notes add a 17-chapter Basic Training revamp, 14 days of Beginner Training missions, Rondo and Taego changes, faster communication tools, the returning Hot Drop mode, Solo Deathmatch and graphics modes reaching up to 120 FPS on current-generation consoles.
Release date and status
PUBG Corporation completed the Windows PC release on December 21, 2017, followed by Xbox One on September 4, 2018 and PlayStation 4 on December 7, 2018. KRAFTON moved console service to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 13, 2025 and ended support for the two legacy consoles.

PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS is playable today on Windows PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. PC downloads are available through Steam and Epic Games Store, while PlayStation Store and Xbox Store carry the current console versions; PlayStation 4 and Xbox One can no longer download or run the game.
Gameplay overview
Up to 100 players parachute onto a large map, search buildings and care packages for weapons and equipment, use vehicles to rotate, and fight while the Blue Zone reduces the playable area. Solo, duo and four-player squad formats support first-person or third-person perspectives, with Ranked, Arcade, training and custom matches extending the main battle royale loop.
Story, setting, or main mode
PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS has no story campaign; its main mode is a last-survivor battle royale across rotating maps such as Erangel, Miramar, Sanhok, Vikendi, Taego, Deston and Rondo. Each match begins with a transport-plane route and ends when one player or team remains alive.

KRAFTON's Update 42.2 video shows the current training, map, interface and Arcade changes, while the official overview gallery follows survivors from parachute deployment through vehicles, squad play and the final fight for a Chicken Dinner.

Download and availability
The base game is free with optional G-Coin, passes and cosmetic purchases. BATTLEGROUNDS Plus costs 500 G-Coin or 20,000 BP and unlocks Ranked Matchmaking, a Survival XP boost, Custom Match creation, clan creation and additional items.

PUBG Support publishes minimum and recommended Windows hardware, while KRAFTON's July 2026 console roadmap supplies the current graphics-mode targets for each supported console.
