The update corrected an issue that prevented the Render Scaling graphics setting from being applied. Release date and status

Monster Hunter Wilds launched worldwide on February 28, 2025 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Capcom has announced the paid massive expansion Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance for 2027, with a continuation of the story, new quest ranks, locales, monsters, and expanded weapon actions. A Nintendo Switch 2 version of the base game is also in development, but Capcom has not announced its release date.

Platforms and availability

The released version is available on PC through Steam, on PlayStation 5 through PlayStation Store, and on Xbox Series X/S through Xbox Store. PlayStation Plus is required for online multiplayer on PlayStation 5, while the PlayStation release also supports single-player play without online multiplayer.

Gameplay and setting

Players hunt large monsters across the Forbidden Lands using one of 14 weapon types, then use materials from successful hunts to forge and improve weapons and armor. Focus Mode provides more precise control over attacks and guards while exposing wounds and weak points for Focus Strikes, while Power Clashes and Offset Attacks create additional openings during direct confrontations. The Seikret mount handles rapid traversal, can guide the Hunter toward objectives, allows item use while moving, and carries a second weapon that can be swapped during a hunt. The story follows a Hunter assigned to the Forbidden Lands Research Commission after the Guild organizes an expedition to investigate Nata's account of a mysterious monster and the unexplored region he escaped from.
