How to Enable Fortnite 2FA for Gifts and Tournaments

Fortnite uses the two-factor authentication setting on the Epic Games account linked to your game progress. Enable one verification method to remove the 2FA requirement for sending gifts and entering competitive events, while keeping the separate gifting and tournament eligibility rules in effect.

Use the Epic account linked to Fortnite

Sign in with the Epic Games account that owns the Fortnite progress and purchases you use. Epic Games says Fortnite may still report 2FA as inactive when the setting was enabled on a different account; console players should use their PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, or other platform sign-in to verify the linked Epic account.

Have access to the account email, phone, Epic Games mobile app, or an authenticator app before starting. Epic Games currently supports Epic Authenticator, a third-party authenticator app, email codes, and SMS codes, although SMS availability can vary by region.

Enable a verification method in Account settings

Complete the setup in a browser or the Epic Games account area. The selected method becomes active after Epic accepts its verification code and sends a confirmation email.

Open Epic Games Account settings and sign in with the account linked to the Fortnite progress you use. Console players can choose the PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, or other platform icon on the sign-in screen.

Open Password & security

Select Account, then open Password & security to reach the security settings for the signed-in Epic Games account.

Choose a 2FA method

Under Two-Factor Authentication, select Set up beside Epic Authenticator, Authenticator App, Email, or SMS.

Enter the verification code

Enter the code supplied by the selected email, SMS, authenticator app, or Epic Authenticator prompt, then submit it.

Confirm the method is active

Check that the account page shows the method as active and that Epic Games sent the confirmation email. When several methods are active, use the three-dot menu and select Make my primary 2FA method.

After verification, the Password & security page marks the method as active and Epic Games sends a confirmation email. If more than one method is enabled, use the three-dot menu beside the preferred option and choose Make my primary 2FA method.

In Fortnite, activation removes the 2FA blocker for gifting and satisfies the 2FA requirement in Epic’s competitive rules. It does not override the other gift or event conditions. Epic Games also awards the Boogie Down emote in Battle Royale; restart Fortnite if the reward does not appear immediately.

2FA is only one eligibility requirement

Fortnite gifting also requires account level 2 or higher and at least two days of Epic friendship with the recipient. Pass gifting may be unavailable near the end of a season, and not every item can be gifted.

Epic’s competitive rules require 2FA, but every tournament can add age, rank, participation, region, account-status, or qualification conditions. Open a locked event in the Competitive tab to see which requirement is missing; a Cabined Account cannot enter official competitive events.

If Fortnite still says 2FA is off

Wrong account: sign out, return to the Epic Games sign-in screen and choose the platform used for Fortnite. Enable 2FA on the Epic account reached through that platform login. Console accounts that show Finish Setting Up Your Account need an email and the remaining account details completed first.

Missing email code: confirm email is the primary method, wait a few minutes, search the inbox and spam folders, and unblock Epic’s account-email domains. SMS unavailable: use another supported method. Internal-service error: check Epic Games status, then try a private window, another browser or device, no VPN, or a different method.
