Assassin's Creed Shadows requires Steam players to connect a Ubisoft account, and that account link enables the game's supported cross-save and cross-progression features. Steam installs the required lightweight Ubisoft Connect component automatically, so the main task is signing into the correct Ubisoft account when you first launch the game.

Use the Ubisoft account that should own your cross-save

Assassin's Creed Shadows uses Ubisoft Connect for its supported cross-save and cross-progression features. Before completing the Steam link, make sure you sign in to the Ubisoft account you actually want to use across your devices.

You can review your currently connected accounts on the official Ubisoft Account Information page before launching the game.

Note: Do not rush through the first Ubisoft login if you have more than one Ubisoft account. The Steam connection should be made with the Ubisoft account you intend to keep using for Assassin's Creed Shadows.

The linked Ubisoft account enables supported cross-save

Ubisoft confirms that Assassin's Creed Shadows supports cross-save and cross-progression. Linking the Steam version to Ubisoft Connect lets the game associate your Steam play session with the Ubisoft account used for that progression.

Ubisoft's technical Q&A specifically confirms cross-save between PC and consoles. Ubisoft later also confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 version supports cross-progression through Ubisoft Connect.

When moving to another supported platform, use the same Ubisoft account connected to the Steam version so the game can retrieve the supported synchronized progression.

You should not need to sign in again on every Steam launch

After the first successful link, launch Assassin's Creed Shadows through Steam normally. Ubisoft says you will not need to log in again on subsequent launches once the Steam and Ubisoft accounts are linked.

If the accounts were already connected before installing Assassin's Creed Shadows, Ubisoft says that connection is detected automatically.

If the wrong Ubisoft account appears during setup

Do not complete a new Steam link until you have confirmed which Ubisoft account is being used. Open the Ubisoft Account Information page and review the account before continuing.

For account-linking changes or problems that cannot be resolved from the account page, use the official Ubisoft account-linking support page rather than creating another Ubisoft account and linking it blindly.

If your cross-save does not appear on another platform

  • Confirm that Steam was linked to the Ubisoft account containing the progress you expect to use.
  • Confirm that the other supported platform is also using that same Ubisoft account.
  • Restart Assassin's Creed Shadows after confirming the account connections.
  • Do not assume two different Ubisoft accounts will share the same cross-save simply because they belong to the same person.

You can read Ubisoft's official Assassin's Creed Shadows Tech Q&A for the Steam linking and cross-save confirmation.

No. Ubisoft says the Steam installation automatically includes a lightweight embedded version of Ubisoft Connect, so you do not need to separately install the full Ubisoft Connect launcher just to launch the Steam version.

If the accounts are not already linked, Assassin's Creed Shadows lets you link them during the first Steam launch. Ubisoft describes this as a one-time setup.

Ubisoft says the connection is automatic when the Steam and Ubisoft accounts are already linked. You should not need to perform the first-launch linking process again.

Yes. Ubisoft says players without a Ubisoft account can create one during the first launch and link it to their Steam account.

Yes. Ubisoft specifically confirms that Assassin's Creed Shadows supports cross-save and cross-progression and identifies Ubisoft account linking on Steam as part of that system.

Ubisoft confirms cross-save between PC and consoles for Assassin's Creed Shadows, and its Nintendo Switch 2 documentation also confirms cross-progression through Ubisoft Connect. Use the same linked Ubisoft account on the supported platforms involved.
