Nintendo released Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Ver. 3.0.0 on July 22, 2026, adding compatibility with the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. Nintendo's support notes state that the update makes no gameplay changes when the original Nintendo Switch version is played without the Switch 2 Edition upgrade.

Platforms and availability
The enhanced edition is playable only on Nintendo Switch 2. Existing Xenoblade Chronicles 2 owners can buy the upgrade pack, while inserting the original physical or virtual game card into a Nintendo Switch plays the original version without the Switch 2-exclusive enhancements.
Gameplay overview
Rex travels with Drivers and Blades across the Titans of Alrest, using Arts, elemental Blade Specials, positioning and party combinations in real-time RPG battles. The new Merc Assault mode lets players directly control and switch among as many as six Blades during Merc Missions.
Story, setting, or main mode
The story follows scavenger Rex and Pyra, a Blade who asks him to reach the fabled paradise Elysium. Their journey crosses an ocean of clouds where the last civilizations live on the backs of dying Titans.
