Xenoblade Chronicles 2 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is a role-playing adventure set above a vast Cloud Sea, where people live on the backs of enormous creatures called Titans. Players follow Rex, a young salvager who bonds with Pyra, a living weapon called a Blade, and travels with her in search of the paradise Elysium. During battles, Rex and his allies fight alongside Blades, whose weapons and powers can be combined into stronger attacks. Between fights, players explore the Titans, strengthen the party and its equipment, and continue the journey across Alrest.

On Nintendo Switch 2, it fixes a New Game Plus issue that could reduce an unlocked third accessory slot after an amiibo reward, corrects the balance between background music and sound effects, fixes cases where Rex could become uncontrollable when switching from Pyra to Mythra, and restores Pouch Item effects after MOMO changes forms.

Platforms and availability
This edition is exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2 and is distributed through the Nintendo eShop. Players who already own the Nintendo Switch version of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 can instead purchase the smaller upgrade pack to unlock the Nintendo Switch 2 enhancements without buying the full game again. If the physical or virtual game card for this edition is inserted into an original Nintendo Switch console, it runs as the standard Nintendo Switch version without any Switch 2 specific features.
Gameplay and setting
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is an open-world role-playing game built around the bond between human Drivers and living weapons called Blades. Players form a party, switch between multiple Blades in real time, and chain elemental Driver Combos and Blade Specials in combat. The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition adds the Merc Assault mode, letting players directly control a squad of six Blades in wave-based mercenary battles outside the main story. Field Skills used during exploration no longer require a Blade to remain equipped to a Driver, and collectibles at Collection Points now spawn together rather than in stages. The story follows Rex, a salvager who partners with the Blade Pyra, as they lead a growing group of companions across the Titan-borne world of Alrest in search of the legendary paradise Elysium before the Titans they live on collapse.
