Platforms and availability

OCTOPATH TRAVELER is available on Nintendo Switch, PC through Steam, Epic Games Store, and the Microsoft ecosystem, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. A dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 version is also confirmed. The original Nintendo Switch version remains compatible with Nintendo Switch 2, but the dedicated Switch 2 edition is a separate product and does not share save data with the Switch version.

Gameplay and setting

OCTOPATH TRAVELER takes place across the eight regions of Orsterra. Players choose Ophilia, Cyrus, Tressa, Olberic, Primrose, Alfyn, Therion, or H'aanit as their starting traveler, then recruit the others while pursuing each character's individual chapters. Every traveler has a unique Path Action used to interact with townspeople, including abilities such as Guide, Scrutinize, Purchase, Challenge, Allure, Inquire, Steal, and Provoke.

Combat uses turn-based commands built around enemy weaknesses, Shield Points, Break states, and Boost Points. Repeatedly striking weaknesses reduces an enemy's shields until it enters Break, while stored Boost Points can strengthen attacks, skills, or support actions. Characters can also combine their starting jobs with secondary jobs, skills, equipment, and advanced jobs to create different party builds.
