Gameplay and setting
CONTROL Resonant shifts the series toward a melee-focused action RPG starring Dylan Faden. After years in Federal Bureau of Control confinement, Dylan enters a Manhattan distorted by the Hiss, Mold, and a new cosmic threat while searching for his missing sister Jesse. The city is divided into large handcrafted zones containing narrative missions, World Quests, environmental challenges, hidden encounters, Altered Items, optional discoveries, and Gravity Anomalies that distort normal orientation and traversal.
Combat revolves around the Aberrant, a shapeshifting melee weapon with Primary Forms, Secondary Forms, and Combo Enders. Melee attacks restore Dylan's Combat Ability resource, supernatural abilities can stun enemies, and executions temporarily strengthen melee damage, creating an aggressive combat loop. Alternative builds can use powers such as Mold Turrets, while defeating major Resonant bosses unlocks supernatural abilities and sometimes forces branching progression choices. The Gap acts as a buildcrafting space where Weapon Forms, Supernatural Combat Abilities, Talents, and Artifacts can be combined into specialized setups.
