Borderlands 4

Borderlands 4 is Gearbox Software’s paid first-person looter shooter — four Vault Hunters fight across Kairos with billions of weapons, Action Skills and expanded movement. It has been out on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S since September 12, 2025, with Version 1.8 as the current release and the Nintendo Switch 2 edition still delayed.

Latest update

Version 1.8 is live as of June 25, 2026 with Bounty Pack 3: A Zane to Kill For, the free Takedown at Hadron Abyss, Circle of Slaughter and SHiFT-based cross-platform saves. 2K schedules Version 1.9 and Bounty Pack 4: Murders & Acquisitions for July 30, 2026; Takedown access requires the completed main campaign, and SHiFT code rewards such as Golden Keys do not move with a transferred save.

Release date and status

Gearbox Software released Borderlands 4 for Windows PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on September 12, 2025. The Nintendo Switch 2 edition is delayed with no revised release date, and Borderlands Support confirms that its digital pre-orders were cancelled.

Platforms and availability

Windows PC players can buy Borderlands 4 through Steam or Epic Games Store, while PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store carry the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S editions. Nintendo still lists a Switch 2 product page with a TBD date, but that edition is not playable.

Gameplay overview

Players combine firearms, Vault Hunter Action Skills and branching skill trees with double jumps, gliding, dodging, grappling and Digirunner traversal. The campaign supports solo play, up to four players online with cross-play, and two-player split screen on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Story, setting, or main mode

Vex, Rafa, Amon and Harlowe crash onto Kairos, where the Timekeeper controls the population through his Order and cybernetic Bolts. The four Vault Hunters join a resistance across connected regions, defeat faction commanders and pursue the tyrant inside Dominion.

Trailer, screenshots, and media

The cinematic launch trailer and PlayStation gallery show the Vault Hunters, Order machinery, canyon settlements, Kairos beneath its fractured sky, energy-blade combat and the industrial spaces controlled by the Timekeeper.

Developer and publisher

Gearbox Software develops Borderlands 4, and 2K publishes the game and its post-launch content.

Download and availability

The Standard Edition is $69.99, the Deluxe Edition is $99.99 and the Super Deluxe Edition is $129.99 on the US PlayStation Store. Paid Bounty Packs, Story Packs and cosmetic items are optional additions to the base game.

System / Device Requirements

2K publishes separate minimum and recommended 64-bit Windows configurations; online co-op, cross-play and SHiFT services require an internet connection.
