The base game features Vex the Siren, Rafa the Exo-Soldier, Amon the Forgeknight, and Harlowe the Gravitar, each with three Action Skills and branching skill trees. Story Pack 1 adds C4SH the Rogue as another playable Vault Hunter. Movement includes double jumping, gliding, dodging, grappling, and the summonable Digirunner vehicle, allowing combat and exploration to flow across the game's larger connected spaces.
Weapons come from manufacturers including Daedalus, Tediore, Maliwan, Jakobs, Vladof, and Torgue, while the Licensed Parts system can combine characteristics from different manufacturers. Additional gear systems include Ordnance, Enhancements, and Repkits. Endgame progression includes Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode, Specializations, Wildcard Missions, replayable bosses through Moxxi's Big Encore, Invincible boss encounters, Takedown at Hadron Abyss, and Circle of Slaughter.
