Black Myth: Wukong is a single-player action RPG rooted in Chinese mythology and based on Journey to the West. You play as the Destined One, a staff-wielding hero who travels through varied landscapes to uncover the truth behind a legend from the past. Combat starts with staff techniques, then expands as you develop talents and use supernatural powers such as spells or transformations to answer different enemy strengths. Exploration between major battles leads to new characters, equipment, hidden paths, and stories behind the creatures you face. After completing the game once, the permanent Challenge feature adds rematches and linked battles against previously defeated opponents.

Gameplay and setting

Exploration leads through landscapes inspired by Journey to the West and Chinese mythology, with hidden paths, characters, and stories connected to the enemies encountered along the way. After the game is completed at least once, Challenge at Keeper's Shrines adds Return of Rivals duels and Gauntlet of Legends sequences against multiple opponents.
