Birds of War
Birds of War is a premium, third-person aerial PvP shooter developed and published by HexNest Games. Players control a customizable bird from one of seven revealed classes, each suited to a different combat role within a three-bird team. Working with two teammates, they raid rival nests to steal eggs, carry them home, and defend their own nest from two rival flocks at once. Its defining hook is always-on proximity voice chat, letting nearby rivals hear coordination, deception, and panic unfold in real time.

Latest update
The most recent patch, 1.8.13, added support for Double XP weekends, an event that ran through August 16, 2026 and boosted both account level and bird mastery gains. The same patch shortened several Universal Ability active windows from 1.5 seconds to 1.0 seconds, removed animation cancelling on the Pigeon and Shoebill, and fixed a marked-target teleport issue on Owl. It also resolved audio dropouts that occurred when switching output devices mid-match and a bug that made players face the wrong direction after spawning.
Release date and status
HexNest Games' official site describes Birds of War as fully released on Steam, not an Early Access title, effective July 22, 2026. The launch followed a public playtest in February 2026 and a free Steam Next Fest demo running June 15 to 22, 2026 that drew more than 25,000 unique players.

Platforms and availability
Birds of War is available only on Windows PC. HexNest Games and Steam do not currently list PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, macOS, Linux, or mobile versions. The Steam listing supports online multiplayer for lobbies of up to nine players and requires acceptance of a third-party EULA.
Gameplay and setting
Matches place three teams of three birds around three nests in fast, melee-first combat. Each flock raids rival nests, carries stolen eggs home, and defends its own supply, with the highest egg total deciding the winner. Combat is physics-driven, so a clean hit can ragdoll an opponent across the map. Players choose from seven revealed bird classes, including the tanky Shoebill, the stealthy Crow, and the supportive Pigeon, with two more classes planned to reach a target roster of nine. Proximity voice chat runs throughout every match, letting nearby rivals hear coordination, deception, and panic in real time. Official modes include Egg Conquest, Team Deathmatch, Free for All, and Infected.
Trailer, screenshots, and media
The official trailer shows fast aerial dogfights, egg raids, and ragdoll knockouts, while the screenshot gallery spans jungle, Arctic, and desert arenas alongside cosmetic looks such as samurai armor, a business suit, and a hi-vis construction outfit.
Developer and publisher
HexNest Games, an independent three-person studio based in Melbourne, Australia, both develops and publishes Birds of War as its debut title. The studio was founded by Seaton Rogers, also known as Australian rapper YNG Martyr, alongside videographer Samuel Gordon and lead developer Matt Didehvar, a former professional esports player. The game was self-funded and self-marketed without a separate publisher.
