Roblox lets you protect your account with 2-Step Verification and create one-time Backup Codes for situations where your normal verification method is unavailable. A verified email address is required before 2SV can be enabled, and Roblox recommends keeping additional recovery options ready so you do not lose account access.

Verify your email before turning on 2-Step Verification
Roblox requires a verified email address before you can enable 2-Step Verification. If your email is already verified, you can go directly to the security setup.
If you still need to verify an email address, sign in to Roblox and open Settings. On a web browser, use the gear icon in the upper-right corner. In the mobile app, open the three-dot More menu and then the settings gear.

Choose Email or an Authenticator App for 2SV
Email 2-Step Verification sends a security code to the verified email address on your Roblox account when you sign in using your password. Enter that code on the Roblox verification screen to continue.
Authenticator App 2-Step Verification generates the login code inside a compatible authenticator app. Roblox lists options including Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, Duo, and Twilio Authy. After connecting the authenticator, use the currently displayed code whenever Roblox requests it.
Roblox also supports Security Keys, including supported physical keys and device-based biometric methods. Security Keys require Authenticator App 2-Step Verification to already be enabled.
Note: Roblox states that only one primary 2-Step Verification method can be selected at a time. The exact options available can depend on the device, browser, and account configuration.
Create Backup Codes after securing the account
Backup Codes give you another way to verify a login if you cannot use your normal 2SV method. Roblox calls the area where these are created the recovery codes section.

Every Roblox Backup Code is a one-time credential. After a code has been used successfully, do not expect that same code to work again.
Roblox also displays a generated set only once. If you lose the codes while you still have access to your account, return to Settings > Security and generate another set.
Important: Generating a new set deactivates all previously created recovery codes. Delete or destroy outdated copies so you do not accidentally depend on a code that Roblox has already disabled.
Keep Backup Codes private
Treat Backup Codes like passwords. Roblox specifically warns users not to share passwords, browser cookies, 2SV codes, or Backup Codes with anyone. Roblox employees will not ask you to provide these credentials.
Store the codes somewhere that is separate from the device or authenticator you normally use for 2SV. This gives you a usable recovery option if that device becomes unavailable.
Understand when Roblox asks for 2SV
Email-based 2SV normally requests a code when you sign in with your password. Roblox states that signing in through Email OTP or a passkey bypasses Email 2SV.
Authenticator App 2SV can be requested when signing in with a password or Email OTP. A passkey bypasses the Authenticator App 2SV challenge.
Roblox may also present a second-device verification prompt. This asks you to approve or reject the login from a mobile device where the Roblox account is already signed in. If that happens, Roblox can offer other verification choices, including Email Me a Code or a saved Backup Code.
Add more than one recovery option
Roblox has strengthened its recovery requirements for accounts using 2-Step Verification. If you lose access to your primary 2SV method, Roblox says you may need two different verification methods in your account details to successfully recover access.
Available backup options can include:
- A verified phone number in
Account Infofor eligible users and supported countries. - A passkey in
Account Info. - Saved Backup Codes from the
Securitytab.
Creating Backup Codes is therefore useful even if your normal authenticator or email method is currently working.
If your 2-Step Verification code does not work
- For email codes: check the correct inbox, Spam, Junk, Promotions, and Social folders. Roblox recommends adding
no-reply@roblox.comto your contacts. - Use
Resend CodeorStart Over. Roblox says email 2SV codes expire after 15 minutes. - For authenticator codes: enter the code currently displayed by the authenticator app. An expired code will not work.
- If recovery codes are lost: generate a new set while you still have account access. The previous set will become invalid.
- If a login prompt appears that you did not initiate: deny the attempt and change your password because another person may know it.
