Your source profile must be eligible before GTA Online will migrate it

Grand Theft Auto V can migrate an eligible GTA Online profile from PlayStation 4 or Xbox One to PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S. Sign in to Rockstar Games on the destination console and make sure the source profile you intend to move is available.

Rockstar notes that some profiles are not eligible. Examples include suspended or banned accounts, profiles with illegitimate progress, and profiles with insufficient progress. Console-to-PC migration is not supported by this process.

Migrate from the GTA Online Landing Page or the Pause Menu

  1. Launch the current-generation version. Sign in to Rockstar Games on PS5 or Xbox Series X/S.
  2. Open Migrate Profile. From the Landing Page, choose Online and then Migrate Profile. If you skipped migration on the first entry, open Pause Menu > Online > Migrate Profile.
  3. Select the PS4 or Xbox One profile. Choose the source platform account profile that contains the GTA Online character you want to migrate.
  4. Review the GTA$ warning and confirm. If you are changing console families, unspent purchased GTA$ is not eligible to transfer.
  5. Wait for the successful migration alert. Do not assume the transfer is complete until GTA Online confirms it.
  6. Review the character selection. Choose the existing migrated character if you want to keep using it.
  7. Enter GTA Online and verify the profile. Check the expected character, progression, vehicles, properties, weapons, clothing, and eligible GTA$.
Note: On the Review Character screen, choosing to continue with a new character can overwrite the existing character slot. Select the migrated existing character unless you intentionally want to replace that slot.

Your old-generation profile remains, but progress stops synchronizing

After migration, Rockstar keeps the GTA Online profile on PS4 or Xbox One. However, progress made on the old and new console generations no longer synchronizes. Treat the profiles as separate progression paths after the migration completes.

Criminal Enterprise Starter Pack benefits on PS5 or Xbox Series X/S remain available through a migrated character that already had access to those benefits on PS4 or Xbox One.

Purchased and earned GTA$ follow different transfer rules

  • Earned GTA$ transfers regardless of whether you remain in the same console family or switch between PlayStation and Xbox.
  • Purchased GTA$ transfers only within the same console family, such as PS4 to PS5 or Xbox One to Xbox Series X/S.
  • Unspent purchased GTA$ does not transfer when moving from PS4 to Xbox Series X/S or from Xbox One to PS5.
  • Console migration does not provide a path to move PS4 or Xbox One GTA Online progress to PC.

If Migrate Profile is missing or the profile is ineligible

If you skipped the Landing Page prompt, open Pause Menu > Online > Migrate Profile. If the source profile appears but GTA Online says it is not eligible, check for the eligibility conditions Rockstar lists, including account enforcement, illegitimate progress, or insufficient progress. Do not create or overwrite a character slot while trying to troubleshoot an unavailable migration.
