How to Get Prime Status and Unlock Premier in Counter-Strike 2

Counter-Strike 2 requires both Prime Status and Profile Level 10 before you can enter Premier. Free accounts cannot earn XP, so new players need to buy Prime first, then complete matchmaking games until their Counter-Strike profile reaches Level 10.

You need Prime Status and Profile Level 10 for Premier
Counter-Strike 2 has two separate requirements before Premier becomes available: Prime Status and Profile Level 10.
Steam Support confirms that free players can access the normal game modes and matchmaking types except Premier. Premier requires Prime Status, and Prime players must also reach Profile Level 10 before they can participate.
Note: A new free account cannot simply level to 10 first and buy Prime later. Steam Support states that non-Prime accounts do not receive XP from any game mode on any server.
Buy the Counter-Strike 2 Prime Status Upgrade
Steam provides two official ways to add Prime Status: purchase it in game or through the Steam Store.
Buy Prime Status Upgrade.Add to Cart. The price displayed by Steam can depend on your store region. The important part is that the purchase grants Prime Account Status to that Steam account.
Prime lets your account start earning XP
After Prime Status is active, play matchmaking games to build your Counter-Strike Profile Rank.
Steam Support says your Profile Rank increases through Match XP. Match XP is earned in both Casual and Competitive matchmaking and is awarded after the match has concluded.
Your Profile Rank is separate from your Competitive Skill Group and CS Rating. Increasing Profile Rank is the progression step needed for the Premier Level 10 requirement.
Open Premier after reaching Profile Level 10
Once your account has both requirements, Prime Status and Profile Level 10, open the Counter-Strike 2 matchmaking interface and select Premier.
Valve describes Premier as its Active Duty Pick-Ban competitive mode. You can enter Premier on your own or with friends.
The official Counter-Strike 2 feature page explains that playing Premier is also how you obtain and compete with a CS Rating on global and regional leaderboards.
Prime also changes matchmaking and account progression
Prime Status does more than unlock the path to Premier. Steam Support currently lists these Prime benefits:
- Matchmaking with and against other Prime Status users in Prime matches
- XP and Profile Rank progression
- Competitive Skill Groups
- Counter-Strike Ratings
- Weekly care package eligibility
- Access to Premier after reaching Profile Level 10
Prime Status cannot currently be removed from the Steam account after it has been added.
A mixed Prime and non-Prime lobby does not use Prime matchmaking
Prime and non-Prime players can still queue together from a premade lobby. However, Steam Support says the mixed lobby is treated as non-Prime.
The resulting match is played with and against non-Prime users. A non-Prime player cannot enter a Prime-only match.
If Premier is still locked after buying Prime
Check the two requirements separately rather than assuming the Prime purchase failed.
- Confirm that Prime Status is active on the Steam account currently running Counter-Strike 2.
- Check your Counter-Strike Profile Level.
- If the profile is below Level 10, complete matchmaking games to earn more Match XP.
- Remember that XP is awarded after a match concludes.
- Restart Counter-Strike 2 after reaching the requirement if Premier has not refreshed in the interface.
If the account has Prime Status and Profile Level 10 but Premier still remains unavailable, use the official Steam Support Prime Status page and continue through Steam's support flow for the affected account.
