Clash Royale

Minion Academy is the current Clash Royale season after beginning on September 7, 2026. The season introduces the new Minion Giant card and Hero Ice Wizard. Minion Giant is a flying building-targeting win condition that attacks from range, while Hero Ice Wizard's Frosty Fella ability creates a snowman behind a slowed enemy and freezes nearby troops until the snowman is defeated.

The season's Academy Antics Album Event runs from September 7 through October 5 and provides Minion Giant cards, cosmetics, and other rewards. A competitive 2v2 League runs through September 21, while Princess Gambit, Royale Shuffle, and the Clashroom Community Event are scheduled for later in the September season.

The newest main card balance update went live on September 8, 2026. Hero Balloon, Evolved Battle Ram, Evolved Elite Barbarians, Freeze, Fireball, Ice Golem, and Zappies received nerfs or tradeoff adjustments. Ronin, Spirit Empress, and Goblin Cage received buffs, while Hero Mega Minion, Wizard and its Hero and Evolution forms, Bomber and its Evolution, Battle Ram, and Golem received reworks or base-stat changes.

Merge Tactics Season 11 continues separately from September 1 through December 1 with a three-month Starsteel Road cycle, monthly Super Troops, new Traits, troop reworks, modifiers, equipment, and other mode-specific changes. A September 8 Merge Tactics balance pass also adjusted Rulers, troops, and Traits including Grand Warden, Royale King, Spirit Empress, Super Dark Prince, Super Hog Rider, Clan, Undead, and Rider.

The App Store continues to list version 16.402.2, released September 1, as the current Clash Royale client build.

Clash Royale centers on short real-time battles in which players spend regenerating Elixir to deploy cards from a prepared Battle Deck. Each side protects Crown Towers while trying to destroy the opponent's towers, with a King Tower and supporting Tower Troops forming the core defensive structure.

Battle Decks combine troops, spells, and buildings, while more advanced collection systems include Champions, Heroes, and Card Evolutions. Heroes add activatable abilities to familiar cards, Champions use specialized mechanics, and Evolutions modify selected cards with additional powers after meeting their battle cycle conditions.

Card placement, deployment timing, Elixir trades, spell prediction, troop positioning, cycle management, and knowledge of enemy decks determine the outcome of competitive matches. Players continually refine decks around win conditions, defensive answers, support troops, spells, and card synergies.

Cards can currently be upgraded to Level 16. Broader account progression is represented through Collection Level, which increases as cards are unlocked and upgraded. King Tower progression is now linked to the development of the player's card collection rather than the older King's Journey XP structure.

Competitive progression includes Trophy Road, Seasonal Trophy Road, Ranked, Global Tournaments, Challenges, Friendly Battles, Clan Wars, seasonal Leagues, and temporary competitive formats. Cosmetics and account rewards include Emotes, Tower Skins, Battle Banners, Badges, Crystals, Lucky Chests, Evolution Shards, Hero Coins, and other seasonal currencies.

Merge Tactics operates as a separate strategy mode inside Clash Royale. Players buy and merge troops, build Traits, position units before automatic combat rounds, climb Starsteel Road, use Rulers, collect equipment, and adapt to seasonal modifiers and rotating troop pools.
