Azur Lane's latest official Global service update was the September 8, 2026 maintenance for all Android and iOS servers. It added the Tales of the Paranormal content, new characters including Azuchi and I-14, the permanent Hardy retrofit, additional character and interface content, and a set of UI, text, and bug fixes.

Gameplay and setting

Azur Lane combines character collection and fleet development with side-scrolling naval battles. Players build fleets of up to six ships, choose equipment and upgrades, and either control movement and attacks manually or use AI-assisted combat. Ship recruitment is handled through Construction, while long-term progression also includes retrofits, Priority Research, the Gear Lab, Fleet Technology, and other permanent upgrade systems.

The game organizes many of its characters around naval factions such as Eagle Union, Royal Navy, Sakura Empire, Iron Blood, Northern Parliament, Iris Orthodoxy, and Sardegna Empire. Beyond the main campaign, permanent and recurring content includes Operation Siren, War Archives, META systems, Project Identity, Private Quarters, and Island Planner.
