KAIJU NO. 8 THE GAME is a turn-based squad RPG based on the Kaiju No. 8 manga and anime, with an original story that expands beyond familiar events from the series. Players build four-person Defense Force squads, choose character skills, target enemy weaknesses, and expose a kaiju's core to create openings for coordinated follow-up attacks and powerful Ultimates. Characters can be strengthened through leveling, skill upgrades, equipment, and other progression systems before taking on story missions and increasingly difficult battles. The game also includes recreations of manga and anime events alongside original character-focused stories.

Version 2.1.1 is the current live version of KAIJU NO. 8 THE GAME. It launched on September 2, 2026 and fixes a progression-blocking issue that could occur after selecting achievement or other notification pop-ups during battle or on the Battle Results screen. The preceding Version 2.1.0 update, released on August 31, introduced Dimensional Swarm Disaster, updated the Story screen for Main Story Part 2, and began 1st Anniversary Round 3. Main Story Part 2 Chapter 1 "A New Threat" then launched on September 1.
Release date and status
KAIJU NO. 8 THE GAME launched worldwide on August 31, 2025 for iOS and Android. The PC version via Steam followed on September 30, 2025. The game is currently in active live-service operation under its 1st Anniversary campaign. Supported languages include Japanese, English, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Korean, and French.

Platforms and availability
The game is available on iOS / iPadOS, Android, and PC (Steam). There is no Mac support. The PC version requires a Google or Apple account for cross-platform linking with mobile progress. A dedicated Official Web Store offers Dimensional Crystal purchases at better value than in-app purchases, with web-exclusive packs and special deals.
Gameplay and setting
Combat is built around turn-based command battles with a squad of four Defense Force officers. Players select skills to attack, and when a kaiju's core is exposed through weak-point targeting, the squad unleashes coordinated follow-up attacks and devastating Ultimate abilities. Each officer fills a specific role: Attacker, Support, or Defender. The game features three distinct story modes. Main Story follows the original CLOZER unit led by Sagan Shinomiya against dimensional kaiju gates. Memories recreates iconic scenes from the manga and anime. Character Stories unlock at Player Rank 6 and explore individual officer narratives. Character development includes attribute enhancement, skill upgrades, and the Unipart R&D equipment crafting system with randomly generated stats. An idle Exploration mini-game allows recruiting and upgrading characters to advance through kaiju gauntlets.
