The Devoid of Liberty update (patch 7.0.0) arrived on August 12, 2026, introducing new Illuminate enemies in a Void biome, SEAF troop support as a planet modifier, and an expanded level cap raised from 150 to 300. The update also added the Castellan's Creed Legendary Warbond in collaboration with Warhammer 40,000, increased emote wheel capacity from 4 to 8 slots, and reworked assisted reloading to allow teammates to help more easily. A follow-up 7.0.1 patch addressed UI and stability issues.

HELLDIVERS 2 is a cooperative third-person shooter set in a satirical science-fiction universe where players serve as elite Helldivers defending Super Earth. Squads of up to four players deploy to hostile planets to complete objectives such as eliminating alien forces, retrieving resources, and defending positions.

Combat emphasizes teamwork, loadout synergy, and tactical use of stratagems, which are powerful orbital and support abilities called down during missions. Friendly fire is permanently enabled, adding a layer of chaos and coordination to every encounter. Players face three major enemy factions: the insectoid Terminids, the robotic Automaton Collective, and the psychic Illuminate.

Progression revolves around earning Requisition Slips and Medals to unlock weapons, armor, capes, emotes, and ship upgrades. Warbonds function as permanent unlock catalogues purchased with Super Credits, while the Galactic War meta-layer tracks community progress across sectors of the galaxy.
