Fable is Playground Games’ paid open-world action RPG — a new Albion adventure where reputation, relationships, and choices shape the Hero’s life. It launches February 23, 2027 on Xbox Series X|S, PC, Steam, and PlayStation 5, with day-one Game Pass, Xbox Play Anywhere, and Premium early access from February 18.

Xbox Wire’s June 10, 2026 Living Population feature confirms that Albion contains more than 1,000 handcrafted NPCs with individual personalities, routines, relationships, and reactions to the Hero’s reputation. Careers, property ownership, friendship, romance, marriage, family, employment, hostility, and blackmail can feed back into the wider choice system.

Fable remains Upcoming and launches February 23, 2027. Premium Edition owners can begin up to five days earlier on February 18, 2027.

Platforms and availability
Xbox Game Studios is releasing Fable for Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, Steam, cloud, and PlayStation 5. Xbox and Windows purchases support Xbox Play Anywhere, and the game joins Game Pass on launch day.
Gameplay overview
Players create a Hero and combine melee weapons, ranged attacks, and magic against bandits, Hobbes, Balverines, Trolls, and new creatures. Away from combat, the Hero can work as a blacksmith, own property, build wealth, form relationships, raise a family, and shape how each settlement judges their actions.
Story, setting, or main mode
The Hero of Briar Hill becomes the first new Hero in a generation and enters a conflict with Isabel, the Hero of Wraithmarsh, whose attempt to correct Albion’s injustices has turned destructive. Playground Games also teases Jack of Blades while reintroducing locations including Briar Hill and Bloodstone.

The story trailer introduces Isabel, the Hero of Briar Hill, Albion’s creatures, magic, and choice-driven conflict. The gallery shows Isabel, both Hero performances, Arden, Dave, Jenny, Jacob, and Connor in official 1900×1080 character stills.
Developer and publisher
Playground Games develops Fable, and Xbox Game Studios publishes it. The reboot begins a new Albion story rather than continuing the original trilogy’s plot.

Download and availability
Standard Edition pre-orders are $69.99 USD and Premium Edition pre-orders are $99.99 USD. The Premium package adds early access, two cosmetic armour sets, in-game gifts, a digital artbook and soundtrack, and the post-launch Order of the Hero expansion; all pre-orders include the Chicken Suit and three gifts.

Playground Games publishes a minimum PC tier and selectable 30 FPS and 60 FPS modes. A recommended PC hardware tier has not been published.
