Platforms and availability
The main release is available on Windows PC through STOVE and on Android, iPhone, and iPad through Google Play and the App Store. Apple also currently marks the mobile application as compatible with Apple silicon Macs running macOS 12.0 or later. This Mac access uses the App Store application rather than the native Windows STOVE client.
Gameplay and setting
Chaos Zero Nightmare takes place in a dark science-fantasy universe threatened by Chaos, a black fog capable of consuming planets and distorting their environments and lifeforms. Players serve as the First, captain of the massive interstellar ark Nightmare, and lead Combatants through missions connected to humanity's struggle against the disaster.
Turn-based battles use teams of three Combatants and three Partners. Each Combatant contributes cards to the battle strategy, and players combine and link cards while managing a limited cost each turn. Chaos Missions introduce randomly appearing growth choices, producing different builds and persistent Save Data across repeated roguelike runs.
Combatants also accumulate Stress. Reaching the threshold can trigger a Collapse State based on the character's trauma, while overcoming that state unlocks an Awakening Skill that can alter the course of combat. Story Mode, seasonal Galactic Disaster content, The Great Rift, Full-Scale Offensive, and other recurring activities expand the core card and character progression systems.
